AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Amory is preparing to celebrate its 125th anniversary, but folks there are already getting ready for the bicentennial.
Monday (11-26), town leaders buried a time capsule that will stay underground for 75 years.
Buried items include a ball cap from the Amory Volunteer Fire Department, a Mississippi-shaped air freshener, an Operation Christmas Child Box and a dollar bill.
The Gilmore Foundation donated the 4 foot canister, that will stay in the earth until 2087.
Mayor Howard Boozer says, ” I have a one year old grandson. He will be 76 years old when this capsule comes out of the ground. I have a letter in here. I hope my grandson gets to read that letter when it is opened.”
The capsule is buried on the grounds of the Amory Regional Museum.
