AMORY, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Allen Glenn is taking over at Amory after Ben Ashley’s departure. Glenn most recently coached under Trent Hammond at Tupelo. He’s spent time at Louisville and Saltillo as well, and he won a state title in 1998 as a player at Amory, under legendary head coach Bobby Hall, before playing at Ole Miss.
“I’m very fortunate to walk into a situation here at Amory, which is a great place,” Glenn said. “Being able to inherit some really good players, I’m blessed to be here.”
It’s an experienced group. The Panthers have 24 seniors. Glenn said those older guys can help him out as a coach.
“With a large senior class, it’s been good to have that,” he said. “They lead this team. I’m a believer in players leading the team.”
Amory made the playoffs last year in a competitive division, but the team felt it hasn’t yet achieved its goals.
“It’s not what’s expected from Amory,” senior Zatorious Gates said. “It’ll be good to get Amory back on the map.”
Z Gates is back at quarterback. The Panthers said they can feel the team coming together.
“Everybody on the team is on the same page,” senior Jalen Holland said.
“We want a championship. We can’t get that unless everybody wants it and leaders lead,” Gates said.
It’ll be a run-first team with a lot of skill guys. Glenn says the lines are a weakness, however.
