Amory Company Faces Hefty Fine
AMORY, Mississippi (AP) — An Amory steel tube maker is paying a nearly $40,000 civil fine for storing hazardous waste too long.
True Temper Sports agreed in September to pay the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality $39,655 for holding eight drums of hazardous waste longer than the 90 days allowed under federal rules.
A Sept. 12 order published by the department says the drums were found in an inspection and later shipped to a hazardous waste dump in Emelle, Alabama, in July.
True Temper, based in Memphis, Tennessee, makes steel tubes for golf clubs, bicycles, lacrosse sticks and parts for automobiles and medical uses.
The Amory factory was also fined $37,500 in April 2012 for allowing more metal waste than was permitted to be emitting in its liquid waste stream.
