STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- An American Muslim student at Mississippi State University is speaking out about the deadly violence in Gaza.
Jenna Walton Dakhlalla is president of the Muslim Student Association and is married to a Palestinian-American.
She says she’s devastated by the killings of innocent people in both Israel and Gaza, but says the Israeli government needs to open themselves up to talks if they ever want to obtain peace.
“If Israel was claiming that it wants peace, it needs to go through the proper mechanisms to attain peace. If you’re not willing to talk to the dual elected officials of a government, then nothing is going to happen. Because they don’t talk to Hamas who is the dually elected official of Palestine. Instead, you know..and I admit Hamas is a terrorist organization but sometimes you have to make certain sacrifices if you want peace and right now I don’t think Israel or Palestine is willing to make those sacrifices,” says Dakhlalla.
Dakhlalla hopes both leaders can put aside history and past disputes in order to come together for peace.
