Alcorn Sheriff Pushes For New Radios
CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – Alcorn County Sheriff Charles Rinehart has asked the board of supervisors to let him spend $34,000 of drug seizure money on new radios to connect his deputies to the Mississippi Wireless Integrated Network.
The Corinth Police Department recently began using the new radios. Police Chief David Lancaster said the radios provide better communications locally and make it possible to communicate across the state.
The Daily Corinthian reports (http://bit.ly/16B7nCw) that Rinehart told supervisors that the portables have an outstanding range.
The development of MSWIN resulted from the Hurricane Katrina disaster, which showed the need for a way for agencies across the state to have seamless communications.
The radio works like a cellphone. The new radios also cancel out background noise, making for crisper communications.
