Alcorn County Jail May Soon Take State Prisoners Again
ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Alcorn County soon may be able to take state prisoners again.
County supervisors have approved Sheriff Charles Rinehart’s recommendation that the county contract with Mississippi Correctional Management for two years to run the regional jail.
The state corrections department stopped sending state inmates to the jail after the October 26th death of an inmate who was improperly allowed to go on leave. A review found other problems. Rinehart has been working with the state to correct the problems and find someone to manage the facility.
The county hopes for state approval on the change soon. The return of state inmates will have a big financial impact for the county which uses state funding to pay for the new facility.
