Alabama’s back-to-school tax free weekend underway
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama’s back-to-school state sales tax free weekend is underway and covers everything from clothes and shoes to computers and crayons.
And that’s not all. According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, the exemption also covers diapers.
Al.com reports diapers are included under the clothing provision, which also covers belts, hats, jackets, pajamas, shoes and underwear.
Local sales tax may still apply.
The state’s 13th annual sales tax holiday began Friday and runs through Sunday at midnight. Generally, the exemption covers clothing priced at $100 or less per article; school supplies valued at $50 or less per item; books that cost $30 or less per book; and tablets, laptops, computers and printers priced at $750 or less.
