Alabama Pushes For More Patrol
DECATUR, Ala. (AP) – Law enforcement officials in Alabama say they want to put more troopers on the road.
Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier told The Decatur Daily (http://bit.ly/GXdJTv ) that estimates show 1,100 state troopers are needed to adequately cover the state. He said Alabama now has around 400 troopers on patrol.
A new law reorganizing law enforcement employees will help put more troopers on the road, though Collier said the changes will still fall short of the 1,100-trooper goal.
He said state officials will examine all of Alabama’s existing law enforcement agencies and determining what duties can be consolidated. That could allow officials to put more law enforcement officers to resume patrol duties.
