Alabama Governor Assigns Drone Responsibility

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Gov. Robert Bentley has placed authority over drones with the Bureau of Aeronautics at the state Department of Transportation.

Bentley signed an executive order making the assignment. It was the result of recommendations last week by a task force he appointed to study unmanned aerial technology.

Bentley’s executive order also created an eight-member advisory council for the Bureau of Aeronautics. The council includes the state’s law enforcement secretary, agriculture commissioner, conservation commissioner, transportation director and lieutenant governor.

The Federal Aviation Administration is still working on national regulations for the commercial use of drones.
