Alabama Daycare Laws Set To Change
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WCBI) – Faith based daycares in the state of Alabama may have to start being licensed by the state.
The Alabama Senate voted 22-4 today, March 15. Governor Kay Ivey will review the bill before signing it into law.
For years, daycares with religious affiliations were not required to be state licensed. Almost half of the daycare centers in state are unlicensed.
The bill states that if any facility gets funds from they state, they must be state licensed.
It also requires exempt centers to show proof of fire and safety inspection, on top of employee background checks.
Bill sponsor, representative Pebblin Warren, praises the step that aims for child safety.
