Alabama bank robbery suspect in custody

SULLIGENT, Ala. (WCBI)- An Alabama bank robbery investigation comes closer to being solved after Sulligent Police Chief, Rick McDaniel says the suspect is in custody.

Police identified the suspect as Johnny Lynn Cordell, 51. He’s charged with theft first degree, along with robbery and burglary third degree.

Cordell was just released from prison in April on a manslaughter charge.

He was arrested by Sumiton, Alabama police Friday morning and later brought back to Lamar County.

Cordell is being held in the Lamar County jail without bond.

Chief Rick McDaniel says Cordell walked into First National Bank, just before noon, on Thursday.

Cordell is accused of giving two teller’s a note and leaving with a bag full of cash.

Several agencies worked together to find Cordell in less than 24 hours.

McDaniel says Sumiton police were a big help in the case.

More charges are possible in the investigation.

Cordell also has a probation hold on him in Walker County.
