COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. – Columbus Air Force Base will host an Open
House Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 2014. This year’s event will be
headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who perform precision aerial
maneuvers demonstrating the capabilities of Air Force high performance
aircraft to people throughout the world. Columbus AFB was one of 14 Active
Duty Air Force bases selected to host the Thunderbirds.
“We are honored to be selected to host the Air Force’s premier aerial
demonstration team,” said Col. Jim Sears, 14th Flying Training Wing
Commander. “As a boy I got a chance to see the Thunderbirds in person and
seeing them in action made me want to become part of the world’s greatest
Air Force.”
The open house will be free and open to the general public. Along with the
Thunderbirds, static displays as well as other aerial acts will be part of
the festivities.
“This is a great opportunity for Columbus Air Force Base to showcase our
proud heritage but also inform our communities about some of the great
capabilities of their Air Force,” said Sears.
The United States Thunderbirds travel the world to achieve three crucial
objectives; Recruit, Retain and Represent. Inspiring young Americans to join
the military helps retain the quality force the Air Force currently has
while highlighting the capabilities and professionalism of the finest air,
space and cyberspace force in the world and display how important Airmen and
their job is to the United States of America.
