Accused Shoplifter That Led Police In Slow-Speed Chase Identified

LOWNDES CO., Miss. (WCBI) – Police have identified the woman who led them on a low-speed chase Wednesday.

Mamie Hawkins is charged with felony failure to stop a motor vehicle.

Police began pursuing her after getting a report of a shoplifter at Reed’s department store on Highway 45.

When Hawkins was spotted by an officer on Main Street in downtown Columbus, she reportedly refused to stop.

She was eventually stopped when a Lowndes County deputy took out her tires with a spike strip on Highway 82.

Officers recovered the stolen merchandise from Hawkins’ car.

Her bond was set at $20,000 dollars.
