Accused Shoplifter Evades Police While Obeying Speed Limit

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An accused shoplifter flees from Columbus police, but a spike strip ends her run from the law.

The unidentified woman was arrested on Highway 82 East after a Lowndes County deputy flattened her tire with a spike strip.

Columbus police were first called to Reed’s about a shoplifter this afternoon. Employees gave investigators a vehicle description.

A short time later an officer spotted the vehicle. He tried to get the driver to pull over but she refused.

CPD gave chase through downtown at normal speeds and onto Highway 82.

Deputies joined the pursuit and assisted in the arrested.

A police department spokesman says items were recovered in the woman’s car that are connected to the shoplifting call.

She’s expected to face several charges.
