Aberdeen Water Rates on the Rise
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – Beginning March 1st residents inside the city limits of Aberdeen will see higher rates on their water bill.
Close to 2,000 customers with the Aberdeen Water Department will see their water bills triple. Due to a new federal law, brass and meter suppliers have stopped using lead in their materials making the costs for product and maintenance more expensive. Water Department manager Ed White says, the meters used to cost $18 now they’re paying closer to $41. Current fees for residential water rates carry a minimum price tag of $9.50 and will be raised to $20 per month and commercial rates will increase from $19 to $29 per month. The board of alderman passed the increase during its January 7th meeting.
Currently the Aberdeen Water Department collects $40 in revenue but spends closer to $90 per month.
