Aberdeen Step Closer to New Center
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Aberdeen is a step closer to bringing more jobs to Monroe County.
Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen deeded almost 40 acres on the north and west side of the city’s Stinson Industrial Park to Ewing Solar for construction of a plant to make solar panels. The initial phase also includes a hotel and developers hope to eventually add a retail center and offices.
Developers say they’ll break ground within 60 days. Construction will create about 100 jobs and provide a new source of revenue for the city in sales, restaurant and hotel tax revenues.
“Now hopefully the people coming into our town will be able to have another opportunity to stay in our town, to shop in our town and to leave some of their money in our town. The main thing will be creating jobs for our citizens,” Mayor Cecil Belle said.
Developers say they aren’t sure how many permanent jobs will be created. Future phases also include a residential complex.
