For months, consultants have been reviewing the city’s electric, plumbing and construction standards to find areas that needed changes. Tonight, aldermen tentatively approved adopting the 2012 International Building Codes, replacing the 1996 standards that now are in use. In the next few weeks, consultants will hold a public hearing and meet with city staff and local builders, electricians and contractors to review what’s changed and what’s stayed the same.
