A Two-Vehicle Crash Leaves One Man Dead

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)-The Mississippi Highway Patrol was dispatched to a 2-vehicle fatal crash about 8 Saturday morning near the Lowndes County/Clay County line on US 45 Alternate .

Walter Sykes was heading north bound in his 2002 Ford Ranger on Highway 45 Alternate when a 2009 Toyota 4-runner hit him from behind.  Sykes was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point where he later died from multiple injuries to the head and chest.

Twenty-six year old Meredith McClure, of Starkville, was driving the Toyota, and only had minor injuries. A passenger with Sykes was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, also with minor injuries.  The accident remains under investigation.
