Top Tupelo students recognized for hard work
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Students who worked hard and achieved top results were honored during an end of school luncheon in Tupelo.
The annual “Rotary Scholars” Luncheon recognized the top 30 students in grades seven through twelve. The top students were chosen based on their GPAs.
Tupelo’s Rotary Club began the scholar’s program during the 1988 school year with the annual luncheon.
Club President Len Blanton said it is a way to show students that hard work and persistence pays off.
“The quote from the Breakfast Club, these kids will be running the country in a few years, and they are, we have got to have them prepared, I think Tupelo has a great school system, we have a new superintendent and he’s doing a great job, we’ve got some great teachers,” said Len Blanton, president of the Tupelo Rotary Club.
There were 183 students recognized as “Rotary Scholars.”
Seniors who have been Rotary Scholars every year since seventh grade were given special recognition for their hard work.
