MSU Women’s Basketball Adds Another to Signing Class

STARKVILLE, Miss. (MSU Athletics) – Mississippi State head coach Vic Schaefer has added another player to his 2019 signing class with the addition of Yemiyah Morris over the weekend.

Morris, a 6-6 center, is a junior college transfer from Cochise Community College in Arizona. She was third in the nation in shooting percentage this year, making 52.2 percent of her attempts from the field.

Morris averaged 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore and ranked fourth in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) in offensive rebounds and second in blocks. In conference games alone, she averaged 152.6 points per 40 minutes.

In her two years at Cochise, the Apaches made consecutive national championship tournaments and won the 2019 Region I championship with a 28-4 record this year. She was named First Team All-Region 1 and First Team All-ACCAC for her efforts.

In her first collegiate season, the Las Vegas native averaged 9.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and was 12th in the nation with 74 blocks. She also dunked twice in a game at Phoenix College. She picked up Second Team All-Region 1 honors along with Third Team All-ACCAC recognition.

Morris joins the No. 6 signing class in the nation according to ESPN. Schaefer and his staff signed five players in November including four ESPN Top 100 prospects. Rickea Jackson, who was the No. 9 player in the country this year, became the program’s first McDonald’s All-American.
