United Way hosts annual “Touch A Truck” event

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- The United Way held the annual “Touch A Truck” event at Mckee Park in Starkville early Saturday morning.

Touch A Truck gives area children an opportunity to check out different occupational vehicles and machinery.

The event has been going on for 6 years, but this is the first year that the United Way has hosted it.

The event also featured a “United We Read” tent with dozens of books.

Representatives with United Way say this all a part of a new literacy campaign.

“One of the pushes that we’re making is to increase awareness in technical education. We’re really thrilled that these kids get an exposure and an opportunity to see fields where, if you’ve got someone who really likes to be hands-on, there’s nothing better than Touch A Truck where these kids get to interact not only with these amazing machines but the people that operate them,” said United Way Board President Paul Luckett.

The United Way says the event will be back even bigger and better next year.
