Columbus swears in new police officers & firefighters

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton swore in four new CPD Officers at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Fire Chief Martin Andrews also swore in two new Fire and Rescue firefighters.

The council voted to promote three Columbus Police Department officers.

Due to current budget restraints, the officers will not receive a boost in their salary.

Instead, they will receive higher rankings and a chance to gain experience in these roles with the possibility of receiving a pay increase in the future.

The officers will be pinned at the next council meeting.

During executive session, the council also voted to suspend a CPD officer for five working days for misconduct.
