Finding each other after the twister struck Hamilton

HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Stories of survival are everywhere in Hamilton, after an EF2 tornado swept through the area on Saturday.

One couple lost everything but managed to find each other among all of the rubble surrounding them.

“It was a miracle. We were just blessed the good Lord was with us the whole way,” said tornado victim and wife Linda Scott.

The Scott’s have been married for 53 years. They built what they thought would be their forever home in the early 70’s.

“We will rebuild and start over and, you know, God works in mysterious ways, so we’re going to be alright,” said tornado victim and husband Robert Scott.

The couple’s world was turned upside down when the EF2 tornado literally ripped their home to pieces Saturday night.

“My phone, the only warning we got, it alerted and it said, ‘Seek shelter now.’ Well, I got up and it hit.”

When it hit, Linda was in the bedroom and her husband, Robert, was asleep in a recliner, that sits in what used to be their living room.

“I just knew he wasn’t alive. I just knew he wouldn’t be and I just kept trying to find him.”

After making her way out of the rubble and the wall she was trapped under, she finally made her way to her soulmate.

“When it hit, it blew me out of the house and then she came around and hugged me and we found each other.”

Finding each other was the most important thing for Robert and Linda.

“The material things weren’t important. I just had to find him and all and they have found so many pictures. I can’t tell you how many pictures they’ve found and it’s just been wonderful because that’s my memories.”

Linda said their neighbor helped her find her husband and made sure they were safe after the tornado came through.

Some family and friends have been in town helping the couple start the cleaning process and literally pick up the pieces of what they have left.
