Craig Springs, surrounding area suffers tornado damage

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The storm came into the southern part of Oktibbeha County, skipping across to areas close to the Mississippi State campus.

This is one of the first places it hit. New Bell Zion Church sits just off Highway 25 South before the Craig Springs community.

Strong winds peeled off a portion of the roof and the inside of the church has considerable water damage.

That same kind of damage is along the track of the storm.

County officials said they have a plan in place to help everyone affected.

“Started here on Craig Springs and went up 25. Looks like it went south of town on Poorhouse and then came up Hail State Blvd just east of campus,” said Oktibbeha County EMA director Kristen Campanella.

“Craig Springs area is one of the most devastating areas. Obviously, you can’t get down the road. So what we’re talking about this morning is doing an emergency board order where we can help these people,” said Oktibbeha County supervisor Bricklee Miller. “That’ll be two ways. That will also work through Kristen’s office and then we’ll also work through the county’s so if the citizens get the debris close enough to the road the county can actually pick it up and haul it off for them.”

There are no reports of injuries from the storm in Oktibbeha County.
