Alcorn State University Alumni Holds Conference In Tupelo
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – If you’re in Tupelo this weekend you may notice a lot of purple and gold and it’s because the Alcorn State University Alumni Association is holding a conference.
The Alumni Association’s Mid Winter Conference is being held in Tupelo. The three day event features meetings, programs and times of fellowship.
All alumni chapters from across the nation are invited to take part in the alumni mid winter conference.
Organizers say it is a chance to look back at many of the milestones of the nation’s first public historically black land grant institution and also look to the future.
“Our motto now is where knowledge and character matters, so young men and young women coming out of Mississippi, other states and even foreign countries, come there and one of the strengths we feel is Alcorn is a close, family relationship type of university, faculty is hands on and students are more or less involved in relationships, they get a chance to interact with each other,” said John H. Jones, program director for the conference.
A parade is planned for noon Saturday in downtown Tupelo, featuring the Alcorn State University marching Band, “The Sounds of Dynamite.” If it is raining, officials will move the event to the Tupelo Middle School gym. They will make that decision Saturday morning.
