Fallen state trooper remembered in Winston County
WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A state trooper killed in a Winston County crash, nearly 53 years ago, is remembered Wednesday.
Sgt. Joseph Pol was killed on Highway 25 back in November 1965.
He had been with the Mississippi Highway Patrol for 15 years and based in Biloxi.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation put up a highway memorial sign this morning in the Plattsburg community.
He had been providing security at a Mississippi State football game and was on his way home.
Troopers hope this marker will serve as a reminder of sacrifice law enforcement make to keep everyone safe.
“It’s an emblem. It’s a logo that represents safety to the people, the motorists of the state of Mississippi. It also represents that there was a high price to pay by these men and women to ensure we travel safely to and from our destinations,” said MHP MSgt. Criss Turnipseed.
This is the second of three memorial signs that will be placed in Troop G this week.
