Fire In Union County Kills Man, Several Dogs
UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire in Union County.
Just after midnight last night, firefighters were dispatched to a house on County Road 14.
By the time firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed.
After the flames were extinguished, a male victim was found along with several dogs.
Michael Clark lived next to the small house and said his sister owned the cabin.
Clark saw the flames and rushed to help, but the blaze was too intense.
“When I got over there and found out that the heat was just so intense. There was no way I could possibly go in there and help him. It would’ve been too late though. By the time I got over there it would’ve been too late though, it was engulfed in flames, it burnt down in just a few minutes, it wasn’t very big,” says Clark.
There was electric heat in the cabin, but Clark believes space heaters started the fire.
Coroner Pam Bowman says the victim’s body is being sent for an autopsy and positive identification.
