Aberdeen Police Officer Arrested For Assault
MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Aberdeen police officer is in jail today, charged with assaulting his girlfriend.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell tells WCBI 27-year-old Drakius Betts was arrested Thursday night in Aberdeen.
Cantrell confirms Betts was in uniform, but was, “not in the scope of his duties.”
Cantrell says one of his deputies responded to the call in Aberdeen Thursday night and arrested Betts on the scene. He’s charged with Simple Assault.
Betts is still in the Monroe County Jail.
Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Randle says Betts worked with the department for one year and left, but had been back on the job for a week.
