‘Pack The Bus’

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) – An annual friendly competition among Itawamba County schools means two food pantries in the area are well stocked for the coming months.

For the past two weeks, students have been bringing canned goods as part of the “Pack the Bus” food drive.

Each school collects as much canned goods as they can, and today was the day for the food to be delivered to one of two food pantries in the county.

The project, which also has help from the MSU Extension Service of Itawamba County, teaches valuable lessons to the students.

“And always remember that helping someone always means a tremendous amount and goes a long way,” said Mantachie Elementary Principal Jamie Dill.

“It gives them a sense of doing something good to help fellow people in the county and we enjoy for them to come down and help when we are doing it,” said William Jamieson, with the FUMC of Fulton Food Pantry.

First place in the Pack the Bus food drive goes to Itawamba Attendance Center.  Students there collected more than 11,000  pounds of food.  In all, more than 24,000  pounds of canned goods was collected by all Itawamba County schools.
