COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Two Columbus police officers have resigned rather than face disciplinary action.

The City Council accepted resignations from Patrolmen Michael Harlow and Robert Walker at their meeting Tuesday night.

Walker faced being suspended or fired for several infractions while Harlow faced punishment over the validity of some doctor’s excuses for absences.

Walker, a five-year veteran of the department, has been suspended previously, including as part of the Vicksburg Four who were punished for their behavior at the Vicksburg National Military Park during a conference.

Harlow, who has been on the force two years, was punished previously over absences. He also was involved in a shooting 19 months ago but was cleared of any wrong in the case.
