VIDEO: MSU’s New Coaching Hire Brings A New Level Of Excitement To Bulldog Nation

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- It is now official, Joe Moorhead is Mississippi State’s new head football coach.

The announcement has heightened the excitement in the Bulldog Nation.

“I think everybody is really excited,” said Jarrius Carter, MSU student who’s in favor of the new hire. “I think people are looking at this as a new opportunity.”

“Social media has been blowing up,” said Micheal Edmonds, junior at MSU. “I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Moorhead. I have not seen anything bad yet, and every time I ask someone about it they’re excited, and they’re ready for the football season to start next year. I’m ready for September 29th when we play Florida.”

When the Bulldogs take the field this season, for the first time in nearly a decade, there’s going to be a new top dawg at the helm.

Moorhead previously served as the offensive coordinator at Penn State University for the past two seasons.

He’s known to be an offensive guru, and fans think he has what it takes to lift the Bulldogs to new heights.

“I think he will be able to utilize Fitzgerald more and utilize our receivers more, and we will definitely get some more recruits I think because of what he has done in the past,” said Nicholas Greenfield, MSU student who’s excited about the new hire.

“I feel like it adds a new dynamic to what we have, because I actually looked up and read Moorhead’s stats,” Carter expressed. “He’s an offensive coach, he’s got the offensive award last year, the guy is a good offensive guy and I feel like at Mississippi State we need more offense.”

For many fans, they admit, the new ball coach does have some big shoes to fill.

“The excitement level I feel like has been pretty high, I think a lot of people are also kind of, a little upset at Dan Mullen, which is fair because we have such a family environment, so we are kind of like how dare he leave the family,” said Alexandra Reeves, MSU student who’s excited about the upcoming football season.

However fans said they’re ready to turn that page and look forward to a new chapter of bulldog football

Although Moorhead has yet to put on his whistle and coach the bulldogs in an actual game wearing the maroon and white, students and fans are confident the school chose the the right guy for the job.

“I do think he will have a challenge coming here, but he has coached a lot of All-Americans, he’s also won a lot of games, and he’s turned the Penn State program around,” said Greenfield. “I think he will keep us going up, and hopefully we can beat Alabama, LSU, and the biggest teams in the SEC right now.”

Before Penn State, Moorhead was the head coach of his alma mater, Fordham University.
