Former Lee County Deputy Arrested On Fraud Charges
LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A former deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department is charged with three counts of fraud.
Former Lee County Deputy Michael Mayhew turned himself in to the sheriff’s department yesterday, April 4. He faces three counts of submitting fraudulent statements.
Mayhew was released after posting a $10,000 bond. His arrest comes after a nearly year long investigation into allegations he falsified documents, causing financial losses to Lee County.
Sheriff Jim Johnson contacted the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office after the investigation was complete.
The results of the attorney general’s investigation were presented to a Lee County Grand Jury, which returned the three count indictment.
Mayhew has not worked for the Lee County Sheriff’s Department since early 2017.
