Columbus High’s Randal Montgomery Not Returning as Head Football Coach
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus High’s football team will be looking for a new head coach.
The school decided on Tuesday they will be parting ways with Randal Montgomery as head coach of the Falcons football program after four seasons on the job, Montgomery confirmed with WCBI. The Commercial Dispatch’s Scott Walters was the first to report on the story.
Columbus hired Montgomery in January of 2014 as he led the Falcons to two playoff appearances in his first three seasons at the school, something that had not been done since 2001. He finished with a 20-26 overall record as head coach at Columbus including an 8-4 overall, 6-1 division record in 2015 which was the school’s best football season in over a decade.
Montgomery told WCBI that he was not given a reason for the decision to part ways with him as head football coach only that “they (the school) wanted to go in a different direction”.
Before arriving at Columbus, Montgomery was the head coach of the Hazlehurst Indians for three seasons where he led the school to three straight trips to the 3A State Championship game.
