UPDATE- One Dead Following Officer Involved Shooting

COLUMBUS (WCBI)- One person is dead following an officer involved shooting in Columbus early Saturday morning.  Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant tells WCBI the victim died at the hospital .  Merchant says the name and more information will be released as the investigation advances.

A city spokesman confirms the incident took place just after 1:00 AM near the Premier Lounge at College and 22nd.  CPD was called to the area to check on a disturbance as the lounge was closing for the night. Details on what led to the shooting have not been released at this time . Department policy requires The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and other outside agencies to now assume control of the investigation.

A MBI team is already in Columbus interviewing witnesses to the shooting . WCBI can confirm a weapon has been recovered at the scene .
