Brightest Tech Savvy Students Come To NE Mississippi For Statewide Conference
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Future engineers, scientists, computer programmers and other hi tech whiz kids are spending part of their week in Northeast Mississippi, showcasing their skills.
More than 800 middle and high school tech savvy students are in the contest.
“I’m on architectural design. We built a tiny house on a scale shaped like storage frames and we stacked them on top of each other,” said Bryn Jefcoat, of Hurley.
“We had to have a video with three props and the props were ; a phone, a pen and a toothbrush,” said Anna Bullock, of New Albany.
TSA is for students enrolled in Science, Technology Engineering and Math courses. For the competition, students work on projects and explain it all to judges. There’s even a co2 powered dragster race.
“I like dragsters because I like the movie CARS and that made me like racing,” said Korben Brown, of Cleveland.
The motto for Mississippi TSA is Learning to Live in a Technical World. The students are doing that and getting valuable skills they can use through high school, college and beyond.
“It helps us learn more about technology and leadership skills,” said Sairha-Gunda, of Ridgeland.
“It has a great atmosphere around here, it prepares you for having interviews, trying to meet deadlines,” said Haley Bullock, of New Albany.
Top three winners in each category will advance to the national conference this summer in Atlanta.
That conference wraps up Thursday at the Bancorpsouth Arena.
