‘Drug Take Back Day’
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Residents in Tupelo had an opportunity to dispose of expired over the counter and prescription drugs safely.
It was part of the annual “Drug Take Back Initiative,” organized by the DEA. People could drive by TPD headquarters on Front Street, and drop off expired medications.
The drugs are then given to the DEA for proper disposal. The initiative provides a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of expired drugs
“What we don’t want to do is put harmful substances in our systems, septic tanks, things of that nature so this is a safe way to do that, we usually do it twice a year with the DEA, usually in April and October.” said Lt. Katarsha White, with TPD.
Lieutenant White says all of the plastic bottles will be given to Thomas Street Elementary School. The bottles will be recycled and made into a bench.
