Education Town Hall Meeting Held In Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Columbus residents weigh in on what they would like to see in the city’s next school superintendent.

The Education Committee and the Columbus Municipal School District hosted a second education town hall meeting.

The goal is to get community input as they search for the next person to lead the district.

It was an open discussion town hall. Citizens submitted questions to the board on what they’d like the board to consider in their interview process.

Things such as special needs, keeping and bringing in teachers were a list of some of the questions.

President of the Columbus Lowndes Chamber, Lisa James says community involvement is the most important thing.

“The next superintendent is going to affect our entire community. It’s important that we have a say in that and I think that the Mississippi Board Association, putting this event together and interviewing the stakeholder, the business community, and saying business community, what do you want to see in your next superintendent, just shows how much respect they have for our community,” said James.

The district homes to have the spot filled by the end of June.
