VIDEO: An Aliceville Man Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charges After Fatal Crash Kills 3 People
MACON, Miss. (WCBI)- A man is behind bars at the Noxubee County Jail after a car accident left three people dead.
On Tuesday, the Macon Police Department charged 44 year-old Darren Dewayne Howard with three counts of vehicular manslaughter.
The two car accident happened back on September 30th along Highway 45 and City Creek Road in Macon.
Three Aliceville men 46 year-old Marvin Jackson, 29 year-old Tyrone McMullin, and 39 year-old Derrick Ball were pronounced dead at the scene.
“From our investigation, they were all friends, they knew each other, they were all riding together,” said Macon Police Chief Lucious Mason. “They came to a nightclub here in Macon and after they left a nightclub that’s when the accident happened, well actually, after they left Macon that’s when the accident happened.”
Mason said Howard was the driver of the vehicle. A toxicology report showed Howard was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The other driver involved in the crash was taken to the Noxubee County General Hospital where she was treated and released.
Chief Mason said this is an accident that could have been avoided.
“It’s sad all the way around,” the chief expressed. “Just one act by him, he didn’t make the right choices and it actually caused four lives not three because if this thing pans out, he may get for it, but it’s nothing good about it.”
Howard is still recovering from his injuries from the crash.
His bond is set at $100,000.
