MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WCBI) – Attorneys for inmates in Alabama are calling for change in mental health treatment for their clients.

Attorneys argue a plan submitted by the state last week to correct prison mental health care, isn’t enough.

The Department of Corrections told U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson, it was increasing mental health staff and looking to determine security staffing needs.

The inmates attorney’s argue there should be more detail in the proposal and that the state should have deadlines for increasing staff.

Earlier this summer, a federal judge ruled that mental health care in Alabama prisons violates the U.S. constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
