Hundreds Gather Early At School To Pray For Classmates, Nation And World

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A large group of students arrived early at Tupelo High School, gathering at the school’s flag pole, praying and singing .

It was part of the annual “See You At The Pole.”  The student led initiative began in the early 1990’s with students at one school in Texas, and has spread throughout the world.

At Tupelo High School, and other area schools, students read scripture, and prayed for the nation, state, the world and their campuses.

“For some people who don’t come to FCA regularly, it’s a great way to put this out, so they see kind of what we’re doing here in Tupelo and what we want to do for our community as well,” said Carter Halbert, an officer with THS FCA.

“It’s definitely encouraging to see our young people here at Tupelo High School and all the schools to come and pray and see our students from our church come to get up early on this morning, long time before school begins, sing praises to God, meeting with their peers and praying,” said Chris O’Daniel, student minister at West Jackson Street Baptist Church.

This evening, “Saw You At The Pole” rallies are taking place at churches throughout the area.
