Video: TCPS To Hold First Ever Military Veteran And First Responder Appreciation Night During Football Game

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – One school in our area will honor military veterans and first responders during their foot game this coming Thursday night.

Students in sixth through twelfth grade art classes at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School have been preparing for the event, by making posters and signs showing their appreciation for those who have served.

There will be a special time of recognition for veterans and first responders during the game.

Organizers say it’s a small way to honor those who have sacrificed for the nation and the area.

“Whatever side of the fence you’re on, we live in a country where it’s ok to be on different sides of the fences, because of the men and women who are standing up and saying today, I’m going to defend your right to say whatever you say, whether I agree with it or not,” said TCPS Teacher Scott Burns, who is also a disabled Marine Veteran.

“I had a powerpoint they learned about different things, why we celebrate Veteran’s Day and the things the men and women who protect us, that they do for us so I think it’s important for them to honor their veterans,” said TCPS Art Teacher Devin Mitchell.

Military veterans and first responders are asked to be at the TCPS football field between 6 15 and 6 40 Thursday evening.  Also, honorary captain Thursday evening will be Marcus Dupree, who was one of the most recruited high school athletes in the nation.
