Sanctuary Hospice House Provides Compassionate Care For Hundreds Each Year

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – On Wednesday, September, 26, WCBI will host its “Healthy Living For Seniors Expo.” The event will bring a variety of professionals together to help seniors get advice on a wide range of topics. Among the participants, Tupelo’s Sanctuary Hospice House.

Rob Lesley, and Joy Kellum are going over last minute details for the upcoming “Celebration Village,” the major fundraiser for Sanctuary Hospice House.

For Lesley and Kellum, helping with the event is one way to give back to a ministry that provided compassionate end of life care for their loved ones.

Kellum’s Dad, Guy Gravelee Junior, was a patient in 2010, and her mother in law, Marcie, received Sanctuary’s home hospice care two years ago.

“It was, just not having to move her, she wanted to be home, when she passed away and my only regret is we didn’t get home hospice any sooner, because I realized, how much help they were, the support they were,” Kellum said.

Rob Lesley operates Romie’s and he will provide the food for the preview Party at Celebration Village. He helped out for a few years, then his 96 year old grandfather, Ed, became a patient.

“Takes on a lot more meaning, the first year after, you just, put a little more into it. They assisted my grandfather in a peaceful way, but I think they assisted myself, I can speak for myself, they assisted me in a way I wasn’t expecting to be taken care of,” Lesley said.

Whether it’s home hospice or in patient services, those who have been impacted by The Sanctuary Hospice House say it’s important to give back to a ministry that has impacted the lives of so many.

Kellum says the services offered, which include not only compassionate care, but education and support for patients and caregivers, show the true heart of those serving in the ministry.

“As most people know, I hope they know, when you come to Sanctuary Hospice House or home hospice, if you can’t afford it, then it’s ok,” she said.

It takes $1.5 million for Sanctuary Hospice House to provide its services each year.

Sanctuary Hospice House is currently building new offices for its home hospice services.
