Video: Councilwoman Uses Her Artistic Talents To Paint Storm Shelter
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A storm shelter in Tupelo gets a big facelift.
The storm shelter on Front Street now has a colorful landscape painted on all of its sides.
The shelter is in Ward 4, which is represented by Councilwoman Nettie Davis, who used to teach art in the school system, and put her expertise to work, painting the shelter.
She also had help from some volunteers, including the director of “Keep Tupelo Beautiful.
“It’s one of the main entrances to this city and I feel like, someone would come here and see this they may encourage them to move to Tupelo because they are so impressed with what they see,” said Councilwoman Davis.
“We just wanted to put a smile on people’s faces, when they see the colorful flowers and again , plain concrete building, a perfect example of just a little bit of paint and a lot of hard work and sweat can make a building a beautiful place,” said Kathryn Rhea, Director of “Keep Tupelo Beautiful.”
The paint was donated by “Farrell- Calhoun” The shelter will be ready in time for the “Communities Forward” festival set for this weekend at Gumtree Park, on Front Street.
