Video: Employers Find Many Qualified Candidates At ‘Mega Job Fair’
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Armed with a stack of resumes, David Glover fills out applications and prepares for job interviews.
“It lets me get my name out really fast in a short period of time, gives me a lot of opportunities opened up at once,” Glover said.
The 24 year-old is one of hundreds at theTupelo Furniture Market for the Mega Job Fair.
More than sixty companies were represented, and they were looking for a variety of potential employees.
“We’re looking for friendly individuals who like to interact with other people,” said Amber Gifford, with Jimmy John’s of Tupelo.
“We’re looking for upholsterers, real big on upholsterers right now, we have a maintenance tech position opened, and we have a manufacturing engineer we’re trying to fill,” said Milton Ramirez, of Haworth.
Ken Long, with Agape Senior Living, hired someone on the spot for one of his assisted living facilities.
“We have several people, fully qualified, experienced, work in our industry, we also have positions that are entry level, we train from the ground up, so that’s been good too for a lot of folks, been a lot of first time job lookers here,” Long said.
Of course, not everyone can make it to the job fair, but organizers have that covered, with a virtual job fair. You could go online, or even from your phone, grab your resume and send it to any of the employers who are here.
“A lot of people who might want to talk with these vendors are at work, stuck at office, so it’s an option for those as well,” said Ashley Elkins, who helped organize the Mega Job Fair.
The Mega Job Fair will be held twice a year. The next one is set for March.
