Third Annual ‘Recovery Walk’ Focuses Attention On Life After Substance Abuse And Addiction
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A local non-profit and several restaurants are joining forces to raise awareness of the resources and support available to those on the journey of recovery from substance abuse.
The third annual “Recovery Walk” takes place Saturday morning at Fairpark in downtown Tupelo.
There is no charge for the event, which includes a walk, speakers who will talk about the impact of addiction and recovery, along with other attractions.
Donations will be accepted and will help “Addiction Recovery Resources” continue its work throughout the community.
There is also free food and burgers from Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen.
“I think that’s the biggest thing, we’re just going there to have fun and there’s going to be a lot of information and education when you get down there, we are trying to show unity in the community about something very serious,” said Mitch McCamey, co-owner of KOK.
“It is possible to show support for not only the person in recovery, or person that needs recovery, but also family members that are affected, and to show people in recovery go on to be assets to the community,” said Keith Henry, of Addiction Recovery Resources.
The event goes from 9 a.m.until noon. The free burgers should be available at 10:30 a.m. and will be served until they run out. For more information, go to facebook.com/events/124694354821578/
