Video: United Way Gives Free Backpacks To Students At Five Tupelo Schools
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Students at five Tupelo schools have a chance to get free backpacks, courtesy of the United Way of Northeast Mississippi.
The recent “Back to School” bash hosted by the United Way, raised more money than they needed, so extra backpacks were purchased.
This morning, the backpacks were taken to the campuses, where counselors will help distribute them to students.
Each backpack is also full of school supplies.
“We just want to make sure everyone who donated wanted to make sure a child got a backpack full of supplies so we are going to get them in the hands of those kids,” said Robin Matkin, of the United Way.
“It means everything , it’s a way for United Way to give back to the school system and as you can see by these girls’ backpacks, full of supplies, ready to go and learn,” said Lawhon Principal Mark Enis.
School Resource Officer Jon Bramble helped carry the backpacks into Lawhon Elementary. The United Way will also give out backpacks at Lee County Schools.
