West Point Teenager Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – He was only 14 years old when his father was shot to death.
Today Devonte Kelly pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2013 shooting of Randy Kelly.
Investigators believe Randy Kelly was fatally shot while he slept at his West Point home in October of 2013.
An adult female and Kelly’s six children were in the home at the time of the shooting.
Then-West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley told WCBI at the time that Kelly’s 14-year-old son was missing.
When police caught up with the teenager, he had what was believed to be a self-inflicted stab wound.
Kelly was eventually indicted for his father’s murder.
Today, he entered his manslaughter plea. Kelly has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 8 years suspended.
