Columbus Police Department Adds New Officers
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Five new Columbus officers are sworn-in and four new cops are hired.
Columbus Mayor Robert Smith swore-in the newest members of the Columbus police department at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
The new officers will go through several weeks of training before patrolling on their own.
In a separate action, councilmen voted to hire two certified officers.
The other two will go to the police academy before doing field training on the streets of Columbus.
With the new hires, CPD now has 69 officers. At one point, there were about 45 on the force in the past year.
