VIDEO: Lynn Spruill Inauguration
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Earlier today, the first woman to hold the Mayor’s gavel took the oath of office in Starkville.
Shortly before noon, Lynn Spruill was sworn in as the new mayor.
The day began with an interfaith prayer service in Unity Park, followed by a prayer breakfast at the Starkville City Hall.
Mayor Spruill was sworn in by Chancery Judge Dorothy Colom.
Spruill is ready to get started working with the board and for the people.
“Now, I get to talk about what I want to do from a governmental perspective. We’ll speak about education and economic development and events and entertainment and parks. I mean, all of those things are things that I think are critical to what we can do in the next four years. I’m very excited about getting all of that done, and it’s going to take all of us. It’s going to take all of us to come together and make those things happen,” said Spruill.
To top off the day, the streets in downtown Starkville closed for a block party to celebrate the city’s new administration, with food from local vendors, performances from local bands, and fellowship between all of those who attended.
