VIDEO: Vets Supply Medication For Dogs Afraid of Fireworks
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- It’s firework season, and the Fourth of July is just four days away.
Many of us have pets with storm phobia- or dogs afraid of storms, fireworks, and other prolonged loud noises.
Local clinics are advertising some fairly new medication for canines who suffer from this phobia.
Sileo has been out for a year and a half now and helps dogs of all sizes.
Dr. Kerry Blanton says it can be administered at home whenever your pet is feeling anxious, and could potentially save their life.
“Those types of anxiety responses in dogs can create a very bad physiological response with the heart and they can actually have a heart attack and pass away. It takes about 30 minutes for it to kick in but the good thing about it is, if the dogs are already worked up and nervous, it will still work,” says Dr. Kerry Blanton.
Blanton says after a checkup your vet can easily prescribe stress reliving medication for your animal.
